A Heroic dog helped to save another pet's life by giving an emergency blood donation.
After receiving a call from Mimram Veterinary centre in Hitchin, Teresa Quinton (owner of the Chocolate Labrador Larrson) rushed to a specialist centre to make the transfusion.
Senior vet Stephanie Writer-Davies said they desperately needed blood from a large breed dog to help another dog undergoing surgery.
She said, "It could have made the difference between life and death.
"The dog had already had one blood transfusion from the owner's other dog and they were in a situation that she was going to need a second transfusion."
The blood was used the same afternoon and Larrson went home with some treats.
"If more people were aware about dog blood donors, we may be able to save more dogs," said Mrs Quinton.
A spokeswoman for the vets said, "The other dog was recovering slowly at home following a successful operation."
