Rotherham Appeal for New Dog Rescue Centre

Tue, 04 Dec 2007

The Rotherham Dog Rescue Group have launched an appeal to build a new dog rescue centre in Rotherham. The appeal began at 10am today as they teamed up with Tommy Joyce, a marathon runner from Mexborough, who performed a sponsored treadmill run outside a Tesco store today to begin the campaign.

The charity’s £1 million appeal has been borne out of frustration at the lack of facilities the charity currently enjoys. Since their creation in 2000, the charity has rescued and re-housed dogs from their Wickersley dog kennels, whilst also offering to help pay vets fees for elderly dogs.

However, the charity are now hopeful of being able to expand, though such hopes depend on a successful appeal. The new centre would see the charity run a greater number of kennels, whilst also able to offer a more in depth education programme to new owners of rescue dogs .
