Wandsworth Council has warned dog owners that they could risk their council home if their pet is misbehaving. Although the plans are far from concerned, the council leader, Edward Lister, has called for a new licensing system which could see new measures implemented to deal with owners of problem pets, as well as a minimum age for keeping a dog.
Such new measures include suitability tests to determine whether a person is considered suitable to own a dog, whilst Lister is also hopeful of ensuring a licence should become necessary for all types of bull terrier rather than just those covered by the Dangerous Dogs Act .
The proposals follow a string of dog attacks in Putney, part of the Wandsworth borough, in which two dogs are reported to have died.
