A dog that was left nearly £6 million by its owner Leona Helmsley is in hiding after receiving death threats, according to the American media . The late New York hotelier left the money to her white Maltese dog called Trouble following her death in August. The death threats have caused Trouble to be moved to Florida via private jet in a bid to secure her safety.
The vivid dislike of Trouble is reported to have emanated both from a jealousy of the wealth she has inherited, as well as for her habit of biting. Her popularity has not been helped by revelations that nearly £150,000 is spent on the dogs living costs each year.
Troubles remaining fortune will go to the same charities which inherited most of the hoteliers estates, once Trouble has died. At that point, Trouble will be buried alongside Mr and Mrs Helmsley.
