Rehoming dogs is a real problem

Mon, 12 Feb 2007

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity that cares over 13,500 dogs each year. The charity has a network of 17 re-homing centres that gives shelter to around 100,000 dogs every year.

Recently a beautiful Terrier pup named Weasel was handed over to the charity by a local police station. The pup was re-homed as the charity’s extra special canine guest as he was born with no ears.

After a series of veterinary checks, vets established that Weasel is not completely deaf. Soon he will be sent to a special veterinary practice in Southampton to see if some ears can be created or not. The charity is determined to give this brave little pup the quality of life that he deserves.

The charity said that the search for a new home for Weasel has been put on hold until a decision has been made about the surgery. They also said that there will not be a shortage of families that will be ready to adopt him.

According to the charity their re-homing centres are inundated with abandoned dogs. Moreover they said that many of these are cute puppies that were given as Christmas presents. The charity added that many families could not afford the financial cost of feeding the dog and thus abandon their pet .
