Rise of Guide Dogs

A successful British band, McFly has introduced four Golden Retriever puppies - Dougie, Danny, Tom and Harry to their band.

The puppies that are just over 3 months old and are making a special trip to London to catch up with the band who are promoting their forthcoming single, Transylvania.

Tom from McFly says, "I love dogs, and so it's just awesome to have a litter of guide dog pups named after our band! These puppies will one day make a huge difference to the lives of people with sight loss, and I'm really proud to be following them on that journey."

McFly declared that it would follow the progress of the pups on their journey to become qualified guide dogs as part of their new role as Guiding Stars for the famous Guide Dogs charity . It will also help the charity to educate people about guide dogs.

It is estimated that more than 1,000 guide dogs are born every year. At present there are 4,700 working guide dogs in the UK .

Guide dog training began 75 years ago in this country and has so far 25,000 of these special dogs have been trained. Guide dogs transform the live of many people that are blind or partially sighted owners.
