Amber Valley Borough Council have successfully prosecuted a man for illegally rearing dogs. Bryan Haslam was fined £1,500 and ordered to pay £275 in costs, having pleaded guilty to keeping a breeding establishment for dogs without a license.
The prosecution was successful despite Mr Haslam submitting an application for a Dog Breeding Establishment License in February this year. The law states that a license must be held for breeding dogs if five or more litters are born and sold within a twelve month period. The license is still pending an inspection by a vet and an authorised council officer.

The council had been alerted to Mr Haslams activities by a member of the public, with the subsequent investigation revealing he had bred a total of 39 litters with 181 pups .
