A man has become the first dog owner to be affected by new dog fighting laws after he was jailed for more than four months. 24 year old Clayton Beard from Walsall admitted four charges relating to dog fighting. Three badly injured pit bull terriers were found at his home, along with a treadmill and items used for dog fighting training.
It was the first prosecution under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and has seen Beard sentenced to 18 weeks in custody and banned for life from keeping or being responsible for any animals. The three dogs found have since been destroyed so bad were their injuries .
