Cloned Dogs Begin Training

Fri, 25 Apr 2008

Scientists in South Korea have made a breakthrough by cloning sniffer dogs, which have now begun training. Customs provided their best sniffer dog to be cloned, with scientists creating seven puppies from the Canadian Labrador Retriever. Although the dogs were born last year, they have just begun training with customs and are already showing the same high level of skill as the dog they were cloned from.

Currently, 30 per cent of dogs pass the training required to become a sniffer dog, though scientists have commented that the success rate could increase to 90 per cent using the cloning method. The project has cost the South Korean government 300 million won (£150,000), and will undergo the second round of training by June.
