Dogs and owners encouraged to keep fit

A new lifestyle book has been launched aimed at getting dogs fitter along with their owners.

Written by Karen Sullivan the book called Get Fit with Your Dog looks at the relationship between pet and owner and encourages owners to be more health conscious. The book is based on research that showed by owning a pet an owner kept emotionally, socially and physically active which has a positive effect on their overall well being.

Retailing at £6.99 the book is a good source of information on how to develop a health and fitness plan that includes your dog. Activities include walking, jogging and swimming, to agility workouts and ball games which all helps get dogs and owners into shape.

There is also information on how dangerous obesity can be the benefits of exercise and guides to nutrition and fitness plans for dogs and owners alike. The book contains comparison charts, statistics, diagrams and checklists. The information is based on different breeds and sizes of dog. Included is a recipe for dog biscuits, lifestyle questionnaires (for dog and owner) to help assess areas that need attention.

Karen Sullivan is a nutritionist and author she has also chaired conferences on obesity, lectures on nutrition and is a regular on radio and television .
