More than 400 people in the West Midlands were hospitalised last year as a result of dog attacks. Breeds in the area such as pit bull terriers, the Japanese Tosa, the Dogo Argentino and the Fila Brasileiro have all been dubbed devil dogs by local residents, who have cited hoodie owners as those responsible for abandoning the dogs in residential areas after becoming unable to care for the demanding dogs.
The figure represents a 60 per cent increase on the previous year, resulting in dog wardens being introduced in the area to whom residents can report illegal dog sightings.
The presence of illegal fighting dogs on the UKs streets has been highly publicised by the media in recent times, particularly pit bull terriers.
