The UK national dog adoption service DogsBlog.com has revealed the true impact of the credit crunch on dogs nationwide. With consumers faced with a higher cost of living and higher credit standards when applying for loans, the website has reported a huge increase in the number of people looking to rehome their dogs . In the midst of National Dog Adoption Month, DogsBlog has revealed a 200 per cent increase in the number of people enquiring about the possibility of rehoming their pets .
It is well known that dogs can be expensive pets, a factor which the website believes is key to the increased number of rehoming enquiries from owners. The adoption service also cited more extreme financial difficulties which may cause owners to look to rehome their dogs, including being evicted from their homes meaning they have had to move in with friends and family and are no longer able to keep the pet. Changes in employment were also mentioned as possible factors, with struggling homeowners potentially working longer hours and having no time for a dog.
DogsBlogs National Dog Adoption Month has attracted interest from a number of celebrities, including Mark Ronson and Lilly Allen who are in the process of adopting dogs.
