A police dog has rescued a man after he jumped in a river trying to escape from pursuing police officers . Glen Lyon from Peterculter had been seen acting suspiciously near two houses in Bridge of Don during July, though as the officers approached him, he ran off under a nearby bridge before jumping in the river. However, Mr Lyon struggled in the rivers strong currents, causing the officers to send the police dog in after him. The dog was able to pull the man away from the currents towards a tree branch, which he grabbed on to before a female police officer jumped in to drag him ashore. Passers-by were able to catch the incident on their mobile phones .
Mr Lyon pleaded guilty to intending to steal from the houses and to attempting to pervert the course of justice at his hearing at Aberdeen Sheriff Court. The man also admitted to being on bail at the time of the offences, though the Crown accepted his not guilty pleas to repeatedly pulling a police dog underwater and committing a breach of the peace by struggling with police officers.
