A South African Rottweiler has defied his breeds reputation by rescuing a two year old boy from a pit bull terrier. The boy, Tshepang Taeli, was on a walk with his grandmother in Oakdene, south of Johannesburg, when the pit bull attacked him. The dog subsequently dragged the boy down the street, and despite the efforts of residents who kicked the dog, the toddler was unable to break free.
One resident who was frustrated in his efforts to help the boy, subsequently decided to get his South African Rottweiler, called Blade. Blade was able to free the boy by distracting the dog, belying Rottweilers reputations as a violent breed. With the recent media attention devoted to dangerous dogs, fewer dog owners have been willing to keep a Rottweiler as a pet.
Tshepang was rushed to hospital suffering from wounds to his face, legs and stomach. His grandmother commented, I have never felt so much pain in my life. The dog was attacking him and I was trying to release him and I could not. The police have since launched an investigation into the attack.
