The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA) has claimed that Tayside is home to illegal dog dealing. The charity has discovered numerous local adverts placed by individuals lacking the necessary license to buy and sell animals. The adverts most commonly attempt to scam people by claiming to be seeking a new dog as they are lonely having lost their pet . The animal is subsequently acquired either for free or for a low price, and is then sold for a profit. Another common advert, meanwhile, claims to have a pet which the owner would like to give away for free as they need to return home for a family emergency, as long as transport costs are paid for.
Doreen Graham, a SSPCA spokeswoman, said, Were very concerned because the welfare of these animals could be severely compromised. The sad fact is that the person who placed the advert isnt interested in what dog theyre getting because theyre viewing it as a commodity to sell on. It may be that those involved are actually selling on a significant number of dogs every month.
