Following the disappearance of two cats from a Preston estate, locals have voiced their concerns over the suspicious activities of a group of dog walking youths. Residents from the Grange and Greenlands estates have said they are worried their pets may have been attacked or even killed, with the youths being linked to the allegations. So far, only two cats have been reported missing to the police, though the Ribbleton police concede that in both cases they have not been able to prove why either cat gone missing.
Ribbletons community beat manager, PC Danny Bradshaw, said, During the summer months, a concerned resident on the Moor Nook estate approached officers after a PACT meeting. This resident raised concerns regarding a neighbour's cat going missing and was of the opinion that possibly a dog had injured or even killed the cat. The police acted on this information. However, the intelligence could not be corroborated. During the December PACT meeting another resident expressed similar concerns and another resident stated that local youths had large dogs with them, walking around the estate, leaving the residents feeling intimidated. The neighbourhood policing team would like to reassure members of the Ribbleton community that any offences involving animals and any perceived cruelty to them will be investigated thoroughly by Lancashire Constabulary.
