A dog has died having saved its owners lives during a house fire last Saturday. The incident occurred in a semi-detached house in Heysham, near Morecambe at around 4am last Saturday. The fire broke out in the kitchen, quickly spreading through the rest of the house via the hallway and dining room.
The dog alerted its owners to the blaze by jumping onto a bed, enabling the 47 year old man and 29 year old woman to climb to safety and alert the fire services. However, in its scared and confused state, the animal ran back into the house and subsequently died. Firefighters attempted to resuscitate the dog but their efforts were in vain.
