Brighton and Hove City Council has revealed plans to ban dogs from the countys beaches for half of the year. Between the months of April and September, dog owners would be forbidden from taking their pets to the beach, whilst childrens play areas, some schools grounds, cemeteries and small historic city centres would also be out of bounds.
The final draft of proposals has been drawn up and will be discussed with residents at an event hosted by the council. Those who attend are expected to voice strong opposition, with many claiming the scheme will seriously inhibit owners of family pets .
Brighton and Hove City Council has responded to criticism of the plans by pointing out that some dogs were already banned from certain popular beaches in the summer months, and a more widespread ban may not be introduced depending on the feedback they receive.
