Manchesters dog owners are being warned that they could be fined £80 for letting their dogs off the lead in public parks. The new dog control orders are part of the councils responsible dog ownership scheme and could see dog walkers issued with on the spot penalties. 20 of Manchesters parks are covered by the scheme, with 14 subject to full coverage by the scheme, whereas only selected parts of the remaining 6 parks are subject to the dog control orders.
In addition to the classified parks, pets may not be let off the lead on paths, roads, pavements or canal tow paths, whilst cemeteries and crematoria are also banned areas for dogs. The new regulations also prevent walkers from taking charge of more than four dogs at any time, whilst there are a total of 97 no-go sport and activity areas across the city.
Failure to pay the penalty issued could lead to a court date with a fine of up to £1,000.
