Lisburn City Council and Dunmurry Community Association have introduced a new Bag It and Bin It campaign aimed at reducing levels of dog fouling . The village of Dunmarry has experienced particularly high levels of dog fouling in recent times, culminating in this Council initiative. As part of the scheme, the Council is making poop scoop bags available to residents for free.
Whilst these positive measures are being encouraged, the Council has reminded residents of the fines in place to deal with anti-social dog owners. The Litter (N.I.) Order 1994 states that it is illegal for anyone in charge of a dog not to clean up after the animal, leaving those who fail to do so liable to an on the spot fine of £50, whilst instances which end up in court can result in a £500 fine plus costs.
