In the latest in a series of publicised dog attacks, a man has been mauled to death by his own dog. The Rottweiler type dog set upon the man on Sunday evening resulting in the man dying of severe head wounds, despite the best efforts of the police who attempted to chase the dog away. The man died on Sunday night at around 10pm in hospital, hours after the attack. The dog has since been destroyed.
The attack will do no favours for the reputation of rottweilers, with the breed attracting media attention of late for their part in violent attacks. Indeed, a rescue centre recently stated they are overwhelmed with the number of Rottweiler type dogs they are receiving as owners look to offload the dogs for fear of their vicious reputation.
