Owners Offloading Rottweilers Following Dog Attack

Tue, 15 Jan 2008

Following the death of a young boy at the hands of a Rottweiler, a Llanelli rescue centre has been inundated with owners looking to offload similar dogs who are no longer wanted. The thirteen month old boy was snatched from the hands of a seven year old child at his grandmother’s home in Wakefield on 28th December.

Since the attack, Sylvia Van Atta, owner of Many Tears Rescue, has received over twenty calls from owners looking to re-house their Rottweilers . Owners and breeders alike are looking to offload the breed of dogs, though Mrs Van Atta’s rescue centre is already full and unable to cope with such high demand.

Rottweilers are one of several breeds of dog which have received a bad press in recent times, with the media quick to publicise dog attacks, whilst the coverage given to instances of dog fighting has tarnished the names of several breeds.
