The RSPCA and the Coastguard have issued a warning to dog owners regarding the dangers of cliff top walks. Earlier this year, one dog died and another was seriously injured having fallen from cliffs in Cornwall, prompting this response from the authorities deploring dog owners to keep dogs on their leads when near cliffs, particularly those which are unfenced.
The message was delivered by RSPCA spokeswoman Felicity Cross, who was responsible for helping the owners of a spaniel which fell 40 feet from a cliff in Cornwall earlier this year. The dog, Harvey, escaped with serious injuries to his leg, despite being an obedient dog according to his owner, Geoff Gale. The veterinary costs following the accident stand at around £1,400, highlighting the financial as well as the emotional harm caused by such an incident.
The dog who died as a result of falling from a cliff was also being walked in Cornwall at the time of his 150 foot fall.
