RSPCA Reunite Stolen Dog with Owners

Thu, 19 Jun 2008

The RSPCA have reunited a dog with its owners, three years after the dog was stolen. The Dorset based owners didn’t expect to ever see Brambles again after she was taken from their home in 2005 at the age of two. However, following reports of a dog being mistreated by boys in Bristol, the RSPCA found the saluki greyhound cross and were able to trace her to her owners thanks to a microchip, which revealed to RSPCA Inspector John Atkinson that Brambles had been stolen three years previously.

The dog’s owner, Sarah Thornewill, expressed her delight at Brambles’ return, and encouraged other pet owners to microchip their pet. The story is particularly potent given that it is the Kennel Club’s National Microchipping Month this month, which is backed by the RSPCA. This campaign aims to raise awareness of the benefits of microchipping, which enables lost pets to be reunited with their owners rather than be taken into care or rehomed.

All animals are scanned for microchips when taken into care by the RSPCA, with an increasing number of animals found to have been microchipped . Last year, RSPCA inspectors microchipped nearly 70,000 animals in the UK.
