Investigation Exposes Royal Veterinary College's Involvement in Killing Healthy Dogs

Fri, 07 Mar 2008

An investigation has uncovered a clinic which is killing healthy dogs and covertly selling their body parts to Britain’s leading veterinary college for research. The Greyhound Clinic in Essex kills perfectly healthy greyhounds for £30 each before selling the parts to the Royal Veterinary College (RVC), who insist the dogs must be healthy prior to being killed.

Shockingly, the RVC admitted that it had similar agreements with numerous other clinics to provide specimens on which to test. The RSPCA and the National Greyhound Racing Club (NGRC) have unsurprisingly voiced outrage at the college, which is the oldest and largest veterinary college in Britain.

The revelation may result in a change of the regulations, which currently allow vets to use their discretion on putting down healthy animals . However, this practise is seriously frowned upon, whilst the NGRC state that trainers should only put dogs down as a last resort.
