A new guide dog training school has been officially opened by HRH Princess Alexandra in Forfar. The world class facility will provide dogs with initial training, giving them the basic skills before the dogs are sent to teams around the UK who will perfect the dogs’ skills in real life situations.
The school is an all weather centre, with both indoor and outdoor facilities. Indoor, there are obstacle courses and equipment designed to improve the dogs’ agility, whereas the outdoor setup is designed to introduce dogs to objects such as bollards, puddles, traffic lights and different surfaces.
With the working life of a guide dog spanning over just six years, guide dogs are in constant demand and therefore the new centre will be of great benefit to the UK.
