Staff at the Snetterton Dogs Trust are looking to rehome a deaf dog which is learning sign language. Daphne, a Boxer cross, has been at the centre since the end of December being taught to respond to signs after she was born deaf. The ten month old pet is so far able to understand the meanings of come back, down, good girl and sit. Staff are particularly keen to find her a home where there are no other animals due to her nervousness.
The centres training and behaviour advisor, Danny Childs, said, She knows what all the signs mean and is easy to teach. She has her own trainer who has been doing some work with her and we would like somebody who will continue to use the signs to take her on. She was living with another dog but they didn't get on together, and so we would like her to go to a home with no other dogs or children under the age of 14.
Barbara Emons, a supporter relations officer at the centre, meanwhile, said, During the last few weeks, Daphne has come on in leaps and bounds but still needs lots of hands on attention and one-to-one training to help raise her confidence levels.
