Vet Calls for Dog Attacker to be Caught

Thu, 17 Dec 2009

A man who viciously attacked a dog remains at large, a vet has warned. Graham Blow from the Bridge Veterinary Surgery in Pontllanfraith, Caerphilly county, treated the animal which had been attacked. Mr Blow said it was one of the worst injuries he had ever seen, and included three broken ribs, a broken jaw, serious concussion and severe swelling in the left side of her abdomen. The injuries were life threatening and the vet warned that intense violence would have been needed to inflict them.

Police has appealed for more information on the attack, which took place in Cefn Forest in Blackwood during the afternoon of the 30th November. A member of the public witnessed the attack on the animal and intervened, and despite being verbally and physically threatened, succeeded in distracting the attacker.

It is expected that the pet dog, who has been named Holly by her carers, will make a full recovery, ‘physically if not mentally’. Holly was released this week by vets and is now being cared for by a foster family. However, given that she has suffered brain damage and is extremely anxious around men, it is feared that it may not be possible to rehome her.
