Leading veterinary charity PDSA is to offer free health screening for dogs next week. The charity is on a PetCheck tour, aiming to improve the health of dogs across the nation. Next week will see the tour visit Deeside, with the mobile vet surgery to be based outside Queensferry’s Asda on Wednesday 21st between 10am and 5.30pm.
The free inspection will examine pets’ weight, teeth, eyes and fur. Only dogs can be brought along for safety reasons, but the vets have said they will be happy to offer advice on other pets . Dogs must be kept on a lead and owners are being reminded not to leave their pets in parked cars .
PDSA’s senior veterinary surgeon, Elaine Pendlebury, said, ‘During the 2007 PDSA PetCheck tour, the charity found dog obesity levels had increased to a worrying 30%, compared to 21% in 2006. Obesity can have serious health implications for our four legged friends, including heart disease, diabetes and arthritis . So, we are urging as many dog owners as possible to visit the PDSA PetCheck vehicle, to find out more about their dog’s health and take advantage of a free dog health MOT.’
