Yet another council is proposing a new set of Dog Control Orders which would further restrict areas where dogs could roam free, or even ban pets completely. East Devon District Council has allowed dog owners until Friday to offer their views, though locals have complained that the consultation period is not long enough as dog owners dont have enough time to take in the relevant information. In one area, Honiton, animal lovers are unhappy that they may not be able to take their pets to the Glen, an area they have traditionally been able to enjoy without need for a lead.
A Honiton resident, Ursula Squire, intends to protest. She sees no reason why she shouldnt be able to continue walking her seven month old lurcher, Stella. Mrs Squire said, Those of us who use the Glen daily are thrilled with how much it has improved over the last 18 months and do all in our power to maintain it, even down to picking up after dogs whose owners haven't bothered. All my dog-owning friends pick up after their pets, and I would certainly challenge anyone who didn't. I would be far more apprehensive about challenging a youngster throwing cans about, breaking bottles, dropping copious amounts of litter or ripping wood off the benches.
