A vet has been cautioned by the RSPCA after his pet dog died having been left in a car for six hours on a hot day. Alex Gough from Clutton in Somerset left his two Labradors, Heidi and Rory, in his car on a hot day, with nine month old Rory unable to be saved despite receiving emergency treatment whilst Heidi survived. On the advice of his former business partner, Mr Gough informed the RSPCA of the incident.
There is a maximum penalty of six months imprisonment or a £20,000 fine for those found guilty of allowing their dogs to suffer. The RSPCA revealed that on his occasion, there wasn’t enough evidence to act beyond a caution. The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons were also informed of the incident, but took no action against the 37 year old. Animal charities have warned that it takes just 20 minutes for a dog to die in a car parked in the sun on a hot day.
The revelation follows the death of two animals last week after they were left in a car. The two police dogs were unable to cope with the searing heat inside the car as temperatures outside hit 28 degrees Celsius. Tragically, the car was parked in a private car park just metres from new kennels at Nottinghamshire police HQ.
