A local businessman has called on Aberdeen City Council to enforce the law concerning dogs on beaches and to ban dog owners from letting their pets off their leads on a stretch of Aberdeen beach. Jeff Riley said he had been at the beach at the weekend and saw two pit bulls run into the water where children were playing, suggesting that it would be ‘only a matter of time before a child gets attacked’.
Mr Riley claims that dog owners are ignoring signs that dogs are banned from the central stretch of sand, claiming it isn’t rare to see animals let off their leads in the area. Mr Riley’s comments follow an incident where a seven year old boy was attacked by a Doberman in Bucksburn area on Wednesday. The boy was bitten on the face at Sclattie Park in Bucksburn and taken to Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital with facial injuries. Police has since identified the owner of the dog and are appealing to the public for witnesses.
A spokesman for Aberdeen City Council said that if anyone felt they were in immediate danger from an animal then they should call Grampian Police.
