Following a consultation period on proposed dog control orders in Lytham, Councillor Tim Ashton has said that he believes it may be possible to reach a compromise. Fylde Borough Council announced a series of controversial dog control orders earlier this year, including proposals which would have meant animals having to be kept on a lead in seventeen designates areas within the borough.
Dog owners were angered by the proposals, with many voicing their annoyance that they would no longer be able to walk their pets in areas such as Ashton Gardens, Fairhaven Lake and Lytham Green. Anyone breaking the law would be given a £75 Fixed Penalty Notice. This prompted an extension of the consultation period by an extra month, which has now ended.
In light of the discontent voiced by local residents, Councillor Tim Ashton believes a compromise is possible. He has revealed his intention to propose that dogs will be allowed off their lead in the walled area of Lytham Green, between Seafield Road and Fairlawn Road. The proposals will be made to an overview and scrutiny committee, who will then pass their recommendations on to the council’s cabinet who will have the final say.
