Police have seized five dogs from a house in Wood Green that they believe are banned pitbull terriers . The raid took place at 7am on June 2nd, much to the dismay of the pets owners, who have contested allegations that their animals are illegal breeds. A small quantity of Class C drugs were also recovered during the raid. A 35 year old man and a 19 year old woman were arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.
The owners are unhappy that the police have been able to take a dog away from its owner without knowing its true breed. The dogs have since been taken to kennels and will be examined to determine whether they are pitbull terrier type dogs. If they are found to be an illegal dog breed, the owners could face charges under the Dangerous Dogs Act .
The 35 year old man claims his five Staffordshire bull terrier crossbreeds were all found or rescued. He acknowledged the need to remove dangerous dogs from the street, but declared his anger at the manner in which it is done. The owner, who is consulting a solicitor, voiced his fear that the police would keep his pet dogs for up to a year, as has been reported in some cases, returning the dogs in a feral state.
