A vet has been killed whilst walking her dogs in her field after being trampled to death by a herd of cows. Liz Crowsley from Warrington, Cheshire, was found by a holidaymaker on Wensleydale’s Pennine Way in North Yorkshire – believed to be a regular route on which Miss Crowsley would walk her pet dogs .
Police believe that 49 year old Miss Crowsley may have been trying to protect her pets from the protective cows, at a time of year when cows are particularly protective of their new born calves, with farmers warning that they may attack if they feel threatened by other animals such as a dog . Local National Farmers’ Union official Ken Buck commented that the cows may have seen the dogs as predators.
The dogs were found uninjured running near their owner’s body. Miss Crowsley had been staying in a holiday cottage in the area, and it is believed she may have been trapped against a dry stone wall before being trampled. Miss Crowsley, who had no husband or children, had been head vet at the Willows Veterinary Hospital in Hartford, Cheshire.
45 year old Sandra Pearce was killed last year in a similar incident in South Elmham in Suffolk.
