Dog Bite Claim Dropped

Fri, 29 May 2009

A man has dropped his legal claim against an animal owner that his dog bit part of his finger off. 65 year old Brian Hunter was working as a Labour Party campaigner when he delivered a leaflet to Mark Monroe’s house in Lemington ahead of the local by-election in November 2006. Mr Hunter claimed that as he delivered the leaflet, Mr Monroe’s Jack Russell bit off the tip of his little finger. However, 44 year old Mr Monroe disputed the claim, even though he found Mr Hunter’s finger tip on his doormat.

Mr Monroe claimed that his twelve year old pet, named Jack, was incapable of biting off Mr Hunter’s finger as he has few teeth left, and those that are left have rotten. Mr Monroe also claimed his dog had never bitten anyone. Instead, he believed that Mr Hunter may have severed his finger on the letterbox. Mr Monroe subsequently stored the fingertip in his freezer and contacted the police.

Mr Hunter had made a £15,000 claim but has since dropped the claim, to Mr Monroe’s delight as a dogs insurance rarely covers such claims! Mr Munroe said, ‘I am absolutely ecstatic, when I found out it was over there were tears of joy - and that is an understatement.’
