A decision is expected in the next few days regarding the controversial dog control orders in Southend . Following a public consultation on the control orders, which include measures to stop dog fouling on beaches and parks, Southend Council is set to make a decision on whether to approve the proposals. 620 people responded to the consultation, prompting amendments to recommendations which Southend Council are now in the final stages of reviewing, revealed the council’s projects manager Zulfiqar Ali.
Should the proposals be approved, pet owners would be prohibited from walking more than four dogs at any given time, whilst no animals will be permitted to enter the Cluny Square and Warrior Square parks. Should owners be found walking their pets in children’s play areas, beaches or sports pitches, they could be fined £50 if the new plans are passed.
Conservative councillor Ian Robertson is one of the people responsible for the decision. Mr Robertson is responsible for public protection, and must consider whether the uproar amongst animal owners would be outweighed by a greater benefit to public health and safety. A decision is expected by the end of the week.
