Dog Dies Following Alleged Deliberate Poisoning

A dog owner from Borehamwood has warned other pet owners to be vigilant after his dog was killed in an alleged deliberate poison attack. 55 year old John Davis was the proud owner of a 13 month old Staffordshire bull terrier before it fell ill one Saturday afternoon. With the animal, Bruno, struggling to keep his balance, drooling saliva and appearing very sleepy, Mr Davies and his wife Davina believed his dog to just be unwell.

As his condition worsened, Mr Davies took him to a vet at the PDSA Hospital on Hendon who believed the symptoms may be the result of an insect sting. With Bruno continuing to deteriorate, however, the dog was taken in for observation but after he started having seizures on the Sunday evening, the family agreed to have him put down.

Blood tests revealed a large dose of warfarin in Bruno’s system, a rat poison. However, given that a rodent sized dose of the poison would not be enough to kill a dog, Mr Davies has been left believing that his pets death was the result of a deliberate and malicious act. Mr Davies has subsequently advised fellow dog owners to monitor their dogs diets.
