A dog has managed to escape from a rabbit warren after being trapped there for 28 days. His owner, Jill Thomas from Haverfordwest in Pembrokeshire, voiced her delight that her pet was safe, saying it was ‘incredible he survived’.
The Jack Russell, called Jake, had been on a walk with Mrs Thomas’s husband, Rick Thomas, when he ran off and disappeared from sight. After a long search for the animal, Mr Thomas had to return home without the pet. The couple put posters up advertising for information from anyone who had seen him, and presumed they would never see him again after three weeks had gone by.
After nearly four weeks, however, Jake managed to break free and walk to a nearby farm. Mrs Thomas then received a call saying he had been found just 500 yards from where he went missing. Upon being reunited with her dog, Mrs Thomas was shocked to see he had lost a quarter of his bodyweight during the ordeal, which would have been too much for some dogs . A vet was left to conclude that he had been jammed in a burrow and couple not escape until he lost the necessary weight. Despite withered muscles, no remaining saliva and sunken eyes, Jack managed to survive.
