A pet rescue worker has found a dog collapsed outside her house . Linda Badham from Edmonton found an emaciated Pitbull cross breed in her garden on Monday morning. The 59 year old animal rescue volunteer described the dog as ‘curled up and very frightened’ upon discovering her. Mrs Badham revealed that her volunteer work had made her familiar with the problem of owners breeding their pets for fights, and then abandoning the dogs .
Mrs Badham took the dog to the RSPCA clinic in Edomonton where it was being taken care of and assessed by a vet . A veterinary inspection revealed the dog, who is estimated to be roughly one or two years of age, was suffering from a liver condition. The dog has since been taken to Harmsworth Memorial Hospital in Finsbury Park.
Franca Cappulccini, General Manager at RSPCA's Edmonton clinic, spoke of her horror at the dog’s weight, saying she could see every rib and bone. Mrs Cappalccini concurred with Mrs Badham’s assessment that the dog may have been bred to fight and subsequently dumped. The RSPCA centre receives a large number of abandoned dogs which are believed to have been trained to fight.
