A stray dog has finally been rehomed after it was feared her unusual appearance would deter any pet lovers from having her. Maggie was found wandering the streets in Ireland, but after being unable to find a home for her, staff at the Dogs Trust deemed her too ugly to be adopted. The animal charity subsequently transferred her to Scotland in the hope of finding a suitable animal lover.
Maggie received a makeover at the Dogs Trust rehoming centre in South Lanarkshire as staff tidied up her wiry hair. Cosmetic work had been mooted though vets advised that Maggie’s protruding bottom jaw should not be altered as her teeth do not cause her any problems.
To the delight, and perhaps surprise, of the staff, Maggie was rehomed after just one month at the centre. Alistair and Agnes Masterton from Cowdenbeath had been looking for a pet, and say they decided to rehome Maggie after falling in love with her quirky looks. Mr and Mrs Masterton say she has been a huge hit with their granddaughter Abbie.
Manager of the Dogs Trust Glasgow Centre, Sandra Downie, spoke of her delight that the couple had been able to look past Maggie’s appearance and savour her friendly persona.
