The clampdown on dog fighting in the UK continues with two more men awaiting sentencing after admitting to charges relating to dog fighting. 38 year old Gary Adamson of Yarm in North Yorkshire pleaded guilty to six charges connected to illegal dog fighting, while 35 year old Kenneth King from Newark in Nottinghamshire admitted eight charges relating to fighting banned pit bull terriers . The other charges relate to taking part in or being present at dog fights. Meanwhile, 42 year old Christopher Burgess from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, faces a community sentence after pleading guilty to keeping a banned dog.
Two other men and one woman are set to face trial tomorrow facing charges of being involved in the same ring, whilst a 17 year old youth also faces trial. All four face charges of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and possessing training equipment for dog fighting.
The media have intensified their focus on dog fighting in recent years, as the police step up efforts to crack down on the mistreatment of pet dogs . An increasing number of gangs are keeping dangerous dogs as prize pets, with the police keen to avoid a repeat of the well publicised fatalities of recent years at the hands of banned dogs.
