RSPCA Find Abandoned Dog

Tue, 15 Sep 2009

The RSPCA have found a tan coloured whippet abandoned in Duckington on Sunday. The charity’s animal experts believe the dog was probably used for country sports, but had been discarded for being too old. The pet dog, called Pete, is thought to be between 8 and 10 years old, and was found tied to the bench by nine feet of washing line. The dog was so skinny that his hip bones, ribs and spine were all visible. The dog was also suffering from pressure sores to his back legs and spine, which vets believe to mean the dog had been kept in a small kennel for a lengthy period of time.

RSPCA inspector Doug Davidson had been informed of the dogs whereabouts by a member of the public. Upon being found, the dog was shy and shivering, and was dubbed ‘half-starved’. With no microchip or tag, the dogs owner cannot be traced. Mr Davidson believed the dog was abandoned due to his age, but also acknowledged that economic reasons could have been a factor. Having been taken to a vet already, the dog will be moved to the RSPCA centre near Aylesbury today, with a view to being rehomed .
