The RSPCA has revealed that it has found the body of another dog thought to have been used in dog fighting . The animal was found on canal banks in Aston in Birmingham on Monday, and follows the discovery of two dead dogs with fighting injuries in Smethwick in July. The latest body was found by a member of the public in a crate, but by the time the RSPCA had arrived, the body had been removed.
Chief Inspector Ian Briggs commented that dog fighting was becoming more commonplace, and revealed that all three pet dogs found in the Midlands this summer were bull terrier types. Mr Briggs commented that instances of dead dogs being found in public areas were not a rare occurrence, though it is only recently that dogs are being frequently found with dog fighting injuries.
Just one month ago the RSPCA revealed it had found the body of a dead dog in a bin bag in Manchester, suggesting the problem spans nationwide. The police, the RSPCA and the media have all been involved in trying to crackdown on the problem, with three people convicted of dog fighting offences on Tuesday following a BBC investigation.
