An 11 year old boy required hospital treatment for three days after being attacked by a Rottweiler . Police are investigating the incident which saw Joss Thomas from Mount Pleasant in Swansea suffer injuries to his hands, arms and legs. The boy’s mother, Claire Thomas, revealed he required surgery on his hand as one of the bites had gone right through his little finger. In total, Ms Thomas said there were two deep gashes around his knee and a total of ten bites. Fortunately, the operations at Morriston Hospital were a success, and Joss suffered no nerve damage to his hand as had been initially feared.
Vets and animal charities have warned of the dangers of pet Rottweilers, with one rescue centre last year unable to cope with the number of unwanted Rottweilers with parents worried that the dogs might carry out an attack such as this.
The dog attack took place when Joss was playing with his friends in the Hafod area last Thursday. Ms Thomas revealed that Joss was already scared of dogs, saying she could not imagine how terrified her son must have been at the time of the attack.
