Man Jailed for Keeping 400 Bullets in Dog Kennel

A man has been sentenced to a year in jail after he was found to be concealing nearly 400 bullets in a dog kennel at his home. Robert John Reeves from Denbigh immediately admitted the bullets were his, but later told Mold Crown Court that he had no means of firing the bullets. Police originally searched the premises on a drugs search warrant, uncovering 397 bullets in the process.

It is not known whether Mr Reeves possesses any dogs or other animals, as he claimed the dog kennel had been given to him by a friend. Animal experts and vets will be quick to point out the danger keeping 400 bullets in a kennel can pose to a cat or dog.

40-year old Mr Reeves was sentenced by judged to a year in jail for possessing the .22 ammunition without a firearms certificate. Before sentencing Mr Reeves, judge Recorder Robert Britton said the gravest aspect of the offence was that the bullets could have fallen into the wrong hands. Though he accepted Mr Reeves had no way of firing the bullets, the judge cited the increase in gun crime as a reason for the danger.
