Guinness World Records has officially recognised a Great Dane from the American state of Arizona as the tallest dog ever. The pet dog, nicknamed Giant George, is owned by David Nasser and stands at an astonishing 43 inches, or 1.09 metres. The animal has its own website and weighs an almighty 245 pounds, or 111 kilograms; perhaps unsurprisingly considering he is on a special dog diet and eats 110 pounds of food a month.
There had been varying reports about the dogs true height, prompting Guinness officials to send a judge to visit George at his home in Tucson. The judge confirmed that George is three quarters of an inch taller than his nearest rival – a Great Dane named Titan from California .
Giant George, who has been named both the Tallest Living Dog and the Tallest Dog Ever, has his own queen-sized bed inside the house, and had to be given a row of three seats on a recent plane trip to Chicago for a media appearance. His owner Mr Nasser revealed he had caused quite a stir on the plane, with many passengers taking photo of the animal. In fact, so many passengers took photos that the pilot had to illuminate the seat belt sign.
