A dozen dogs have been seized by police carrying out a raid under the Dangerous Dogs Act. The dogs are believed to be banned pitbulls, and were taken from a home in Ribbleton, Preston, after neighbours made a series of complaints. A black and white male dog was seized, along with a brown and white female, and 10 puppies .
The complaints made to the police had suggested that a man was using his pets to make the lives of other residents on the estate uncomfortable and unbearable. The animals have been taken to secure kennels where vets will examine them to confirm their breed.
Inspector Paddy O’Neill from Preston Police said the raid demonstrated the commitment of the police to tackling the issue of illegal dog breeds .
Police forces across the UK have been criticized at times for their handling of illegal dog breeds. The high profile deaths of young children following attacks by illegal dogs prompted particularly heavy criticism, after it was revealed that the police had received complaints about the dogs. Four year old John Paul Massey was the latest youngster to tragically die after a dog attack in November 2009.
