Dog Owners Advised to Take Heat Stroke Precautions

Thu, 22 Jul 2010

M&S Money has issued a warning to dog owners advising them of the possibility of their pets suffering from heat stroke this summer. With Britain currently enjoying a spell of hot weather, the pet insurance provider has urged animal owners to take steps to try to prevent their dogs from suffering from heat stroke.

With the UK enduring its driest period in over 80 years, pet owners are being urged to ensure their dogs have near-constant access to fresh cool water, while it is also sensible for pets to avoid strenuous exercise in high temperatures.

The warning applies particularly to dog owners in the south of England, and M&S Money are also reminding animal owners not to leave their pets in the car in the heat, as temperatures can soar and animals can die because of the overwhelming heat. Vets can cure heat stroke but frequently assert that it is far easier to prevent the condition than to cure it.

Pet owners in the north-west of England are unlikely to be perturbed by the warning, given the torrential rain they have recently endured.
