Having recorded an increase in like for like annual sales at the end of March, the UK’s largest pet shop has been given another boost by the World Cup . Pets at Home sold 20,000 England t-shirts for dogs in the build-up to the World Cup, helping the company’s 256 stores across the country to enjoy strong summer sales.
The figures are the latest in a series of positive financial results, after the company announced an 8.8 per cent increase in like for like sales in the year ending March 25th. The increased sales helped pre-tax profits to rise by 36 per cent to £54 million, while topline profits hit £84 million, representing an increase of £14 million.
Sales of bedding, dog tops and premium dog foods were the main sellers, though Pets at Home has diversified its range of products in recent years and months. As part of this diversification, the company now offers in-store vet services as well as four aquatic centres nationwide.
The value of the pets market has been made vividly apparent in recent months, with Pets at Home sold by private equity firm Bridgepoint to its rival KKR for £955 million.
